Update on the New Jersey American Water acquisition of Egg Harbor City Water & Sewer Utility

Update on the New Jersey American Water acquisition of Egg Harbor City Water & Sewer Utility

In March 2021, pursuant to the Water Infrastructure Protection Act (WIPA), the City and New Jersey American Water signed an agreement for New Jersey American Water to acquire the water and wastewater assets of Egg Harbor City for $21.8 million. As required by WIPA, the City and New Jersey American Water submitted the transaction to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities for approval, and that approval process is ongoing. The City and New Jersey American Water anticipate completing the acquisition by mid-year, following approval from these regulatory agencies.

New Jersey American Water is excited to become your water and wastewater provider. Every day, their team of experts deliver millions of gallons of high-quality water service to approximately 2.8 million people in more than 192 communities across the state.

You will continue to see New Jersey American Water teams within Egg Harbor City as we work together to prepare for the sale of the system.  Once the sale is completed, customers will receive information from New Jersey American Water to facilitate a smooth transition. The company will also create a dedicated page on its website for Egg Harbor City residents, located at www.newjerseyamwater.com, under Customer Service and Billing, after the completion of the sale.

Egg Harbor City residents will then be able to take advantage of the company’s customer service benefits, including online account management and billing information and an assistance program, H2O Help to Others, for qualifying customers needing help paying their water and sewer bills.
