Sheriff Scheffler Unveils Hope I Recovery Unit
Atlantic County Sheriff Eric Scheffler is pleased to announce the unveiling of The Atlantic County Hope One Mobile Recovery Unit. The ceremony was held today at the Atlantic County Criminal Justice Complex located in Mays Landing, NJ. The mission of Hope One is to provide mental health and substance use disorder education, awareness and outreach services to Atlantic County residents free of charge. The project is being funded via in-kind contributions and donations received through the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Foundation, a non-profit established by Sheriff Scheffler and his supporters.
Atlantic County Sheriff Eric Scheffler has been a staunch advocate of mental health and addiction awareness which has garnered considerable bipartisan support on the project. The attendees included individuals from both sides of the political aisle who share the commonality of this cause which is to assist families battling addiction and mental health issues.
Key note speakers included Sheriff Scheffler, Senator Chris Brown (R) and Atlantic County Sheriff’s Foundation Chairman, William Mazur of Acadia Healthcare. Sheriff Scheffler commented; “We at the Sheriff’s Foundation know that addiction and mental health issues affect us all regardless of our socio-economic status. We want Atlantic County residents to know that we are here to connect them with services. They are not alone in this battle. I am so fortunate to have this incredible support system across the board and blessed to have such amazing partners in this project”.
Since the inception of the program 10 individuals have already received assistance. In fact, Sheriff Scheffler stated that at the conclusion of today’s event, his team was approached by an individual seeking treatment. That individual was immediately connected with services and arrangements are being coordinated for the transportation of that client to a residential treatment center within 24 hrs. Sheriff Scheffler added: “This case is a perfect illustration of the power of this network and how we can touch lives…even if it’s one person at a time”.
